ONLY five other areas in the region had lower house price rises than Bradford in the last year.

The city's average sale price of property increased by £16,000 over the last 12 months, according to data for annual growth from the Land Registry.

This puts Bradford in 16th among Yorkshire and the Humber's 21 local authorities, with a rise of 10-and-a-half per cent.

The best annual growth in the region was in Hambleton, where property prices increased on average by over 19 per cent, to £302,000.

At the other end of the scale, properties in the East Riding of Yorkshire gained just over eight per cent in value, giving an average price of £220,000.

The average UK house price leapt up by 15-and-a-half per cent in the year to July, marking the biggest increase in 19 years.

But the ONS (Office for National Statistics) puts this down to falls in prices this time last year, as a result of changes in the stamp duty holiday.

Bradford house prices have increased by two-and-a-half per cent in July, up to £172,811.

The region outperformed the city again, with prices rising in Yorkshire and the Humber by just over three per cent.
