A woman working as a prostitute in a Bradford brothel to earn money for her sick toddler son today told a jury that she was raped by a man who was collecting money from her.

The 25-year-old Latvian broke down as she told Leeds Crown Court how Nazif Selimi became angry because she was saying no to him.

The young mother, giving evidence through an interpreter, told how she was living at a house in Harehills, Leeds, and began working at the XL massage parlour in Leeds Road, Thornbury.

The woman, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, said she was told what to do by Selimi's girlfriend. The woman was to charge £50 for half an hour's sex and £100 for an hour.

She said she had to give 40 per cent of what she earned to the massage parlour and initially had to give three-quarters of what she had left to Selimi, but after two or three weeks the amount she had to pay him dropped to 15 per cent.

The woman, who worked at XL for two months, said after the first week Selimi visited her at her house to collect money from her.

She said she gave him the money in his car and he drove her to a nearby location where he "came on" to her.

She told the court: "I didn't agree to what was happening. He was angry because I was saying no to him."

The woman said that after raping her he took her back home.

She claimed that a week later Selimi collected money from her and then forced her to carry out a sex act on him in the car.

"I was scared of him," she told the jury.

The victim said she first met Selimi at a petrol station in London. He offered her a job as a prostitute in Leeds and she accepted.

He organised an apartment for her to stay in until the move to Leeds and after a day of sightseeing in London he took her back to the flat where she claims he forced her to carry out a sex act.

She claimed she was raped by him a few days later, but still agreed to travel with him to Leeds.

Selimi, 27, of London, has pleaded not guilty to six charges of raping the prostitute and one of sexual assault. He also denies sexually assaulting her sister-in-law. He has admitted four charges of arranging the travel of a person for sexual exploitation and one of controlling a prostitute for gain.

A second defendant, 24-year-old Modestas Kilinskas, of Cottam Avenue, Great Horton, Bradford, has pleaded not guilty to five charges of arranging the travel of a person for sexual exploitation.

The trial continues.
