A Bradford A-level student remained in hospital last night following an horrific motorway crash which killed a friend.

Tong High School pupil Fahad Hussain, 18, had been driving a Volkswagen Golf when it was in a collision with a lorry on the M62.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said Mr Hussain was in a stable condition at Calderdale Royal Hospital, Halifax.

His friend, voluntary youth worker Tanveer Ali, pictured, also 18, died instantly in the crash.

Four men, all from Bradford, who were driving a white Toyota which stopped at the scene of the accident, were later arrested. They have been released on bail pending further inquiries.

Today, Tanveer Ali's sister, Safeena, 22, of Parkside Road, West Bowling, paid tribute to her brother.

Miss Ali, a law student, said: "He was a very loving and caring brother. He has always been there for me.

"If I was crying, he was there wiping my tears. He was always the person pushing me on to go forward with my education and he was always there to give people support."

As reported in Monday's Telegraph & Argus, Tanveer, known as Tanny to his friends and family, was a voluntary youth worker for Bradford Youth Initiative.

Witnesses to the crash, which happened at about 11.30pm last Thursday at junction 25 of the motorway, near Brighouse, should contact West Yorkshire Police's Motorway Unit on (01924) 292915.
