THREE Bradford men have been fined more than £7,000 for breaking Covid-19 laws at an airport and a port.

These were three separate instances with the offences taking place at Manchester Airport and Dover East.

All three cases were heard at Greater Manchester Magistrates’ Court last Monday but none of the man attended.

The man who was fined the most heavily was Argentina Bologa, 41, of Dalby Avenue in Fagley.

He was found guilty of two offences: failing to provide passenger information on the passenger locator form on arrival into England and failing to possess valid notification of a negative coronavirus test result on arrival in England.

The court ordered Bologa to pay £3,781 in total.

This included a fine of £1,760 for each offence and a surcharge of £176 to fund victim services and £85 in costs for the first offence.

Both charges related to January 23 last year when Bologa came into England through Dover East from Calais – which was outside the common travel area, according to court records.

Irfan Meherban, 40, of Allerton Road in Allerton, also committed his offence in January of 2021.

He was found guilty of failing to provide passenger information on the passenger locator form on arrival into England.

This was when, on January 28 that year, Meherban touched down at Manchester Airport from Doha, in Qatar.

He was ordered to pay the court £2,021 in total, including a £1,760 fine, surcharge of £176 to fund victim services and costs of £85.

Both men’s offences happened at a time when England had entered its third lockdown – on January 6, 2021.

This meant international travel for leisure was banned, while wanting to enter the UK from destinations across South and Central America, Portugal, Panama and Cape Verde was prohibited to do so from January 15.

Allawy Mintefij, 46, of Granton Street in BD3, also breached Covid-19 regulations when arriving at Manchester Airport but fell foul of a different part of the law and it was much later in the year.

He was found guilty of entering a non-designated port in England - category 3.

This was on June 13, 2021, when the country was operating a traffic light system for returning from different destinations – from quarantine-free green countries to those on the red list.

Mintefig was ordered to pay £2,021 in total, including a £1,760 fine, surcharge of £176 to fund victim services and costs of £85.
