SURGERY, outpatient appointments and day cases are being cancelled at hospitals in the Bradford district to mark the Queen's funeral on Monday.

Bradford Teaching Hospitals and Airedale Hospital have put the following statement on their websites: "Monday, September 19, has been declared a national bank holiday to mark the date of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s State Funeral.

"Our services will be reduced to allow staff and patients to pay their respects to Her Majesty and commemorate Her reign, while marking the final day of the period of national mourning.

"We are working hard to ensure any disruption is kept to a minimum but due to the bank holiday, some planned activity, including surgery, outpatient appointments and day cases, will be cancelled.

"Patients impacted by these cancellations will be contacted directly and there is no need to call us.

"Our clinicians are reviewing the most clinically urgent cases and those who have been waiting a long time to assess whether their appointments and procedures can be maintained. Where this is not possible we will make urgent arrangements to reschedule.

"Urgent and emergency services will be continuing as normal on Monday, September 19. Patients with life-threatening illnesses should still attend our A&E department.

"We are making provision for those patients already in hospital to be able to watch the funeral of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, if they would like to.

"We apologise to all patients whose appointments have been affected by this extraordinary national event and would like to reassure people that we will reschedule these appointments for the earliest opportunity.

A joint statement from Airedale and Bradford hospitals and the Bradford District Care NHS Foundation Trust said: "Airedale Hospital, Bradford Hospitals and Bradford District Care NHS Foundation Trust are working hard to ensure any disruption is kept to a minimum.

"Patients will be contacted directly about what to do if they were due to attend hospital or had an appointment booked for Monday, September 19, which needs to be rearranged.
