A BRADFORD district-based garden centre will close its doors on the day of the Queen’s funeral.

Tong Garden Centre will close its branches on Monday, September 19 as a mark of respect, it has announced.

The garden centre’s sites in Tong, Otley and Harden will re-open as usual the following day.

On its Facebook page, Tong Garden Centre posted: “As a mark of respect for Queen Elizabeth II and the Royal Family, our centres will be closed on Monday, September 19 for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s State Funeral.

“This includes Tong Garden Centre and our new sites at Otley and Harden.

“All guests who have booked in for afternoon tea at Blooms Kitchen or The Mezzanine will be contacted by a member of our team to reschedule.

“Our thoughts and sincerest condolences are very much with The Royal Family at this time as we come together to pay tribute and remember her legacy.

“Our stores will reopen as usual on Tuesday, September 20.

“We want to thank all of our wonderful customers for their understanding at this time.”

Tong has become the latest shop or firm to announce it will close for the Queen’s funeral including Bradford-based supermarket chain Morrisons.
