MOURNERS flocking to London to lay flowers at Green Park mucked in to tear off the plastic wrapping on thousands of bouquets to help royal gardeners in their mammoth job to clear it all up.

Good for them, but wouldn't it be better if those who laid flowers in outdoor places took the wrapping off and disposed of it themselves? And not only in tributes to the Queen - too often we see sad-looking bouquets still in their plastic wrapping, in heaps by the roadside or fastened to railings. It doesn't biodegrade, so why not simply place flowers?
