A 57-year-old man charged with attempting to murder a woman in Bradford last month is to be assessed by psychiatrist.

Mohammed Ali, of Amberley Court, Barkerend, Bradford, made his first appearance before a judge at Bradford Crown Court this morning on a video link to HMP Leeds where he is remanded in custody.

During a short hearing, the attempted murder allegation was not put to Ali after Judge Jonathan Rose was told that there were concerns about his psychiatric presentation.

The judge set down a timetable for the progress of the case and fixed a three-day trial to start on February 6. He also fixed a further case management hearing for December 12.

Ali is alleged to have attempted to murder the woman on August 11. Police called to Cornwall Road in Manningham discovered that a woman in her thirties had been stabbed.

She was rushed to hospital with injuries that were described as ‘serious but not life-threatening.’
