A BRADFORD man avoided losing his driving licence because he was waiting for a hip replacement.

Darren Drake, of Elmfield Drive, Odsal, was caught going over the 30mph limit on Beacon Road, between Stephen Road and Wibsey roundabout.

The offence, which occurred in December 2020, led to three points on his licence but his mitigating circumstances meant there was no totting disqualification.

Court documents say the 42-year-old is the main breadwinner for his wife and two young children.

They add that he pays their mortgage, all the house bills, and is waiting for a hip replacement.

Drake was fined £120 and has to pay £85 in court costs and a £34 victim surcharge.

He appeared at Bradford Magistrates' Court on September 1.
