A WOMAN faces a bill of more than £430 after dodging a train fare between Manchester and Bradford.
Haleema Sadia, 26, of Wellington Road, Crumpsall, Manchester, faced one charge of failing to produce/deliver a rail ticket on request/give name and address She travelled between Manchester Victoria and Bradford Interchange without paying the £29.20 fare.
During this journey, on March 11, 2022, she made a rail journey between Manchester Victoria and Bradford Interchange.
When she arrived at Manchester Victoria station she was requested to produce a ticket. But Sadia was unable to do so instead she offered up an Advance ticket which was only valid on a later train. Her details were obtained by rail staff and she was advised the facts would be reported.
Following the incident a letter was sent to Sadia requesting either payment of the fare or proof of purchase for the correct train. But she failed to respond to this letter which resulted in a Fixed Penalty letter being sent. This remains unpaid.
Sadia was fined £220, ordered to pay £150 costs, a £34 victim surcharge and £29.20 compensation for the offence, which totalled £433.20.
Sadia was sentenced under the single justice procedure at Manchester & Salford Magistrates’ Court on September 6, 2022.
