A MOTORWAY was reduced to one lane and traffic grew after a car and van crashed this morning.

The collision happened on the westbound carriageway of the M62, between junction 23 (Huddersfield) and junction 22 (Rishworth Moor).

A West Yorkshire Police spokesperson said there were no injuries sustained in the crash and that it was only the vehicles that were damaged.

Lanes two and three (of three) had to be closed while the situation was resolved for a few hours.

This caused queues to build and congestion was reported to be stretching as far back as junction 25 (Brighouse) at its height.

The closure was adding around an hour extra onto normal journey times and the average speed dropped to five miles per hour.

All traffic was temporarily held for around 15 minutes after the crash first happened.

The crash has since been cleared.
