SALTAIRE Community Festival has confirmed new dates after it was postponed following the death of the Queen.

The festival – which is a celebration of Saltaire, its art, heritage and community – will now run from Saturday, 24 September to Sunday, 2 October.

A spokesperson said: “We are deeply saddened to hear of the death of HM Queen Elizabeth II and we send our condolences to the Royal Family.

“Saltaire Community Festival is in its 19th year. As many of our events run in Roberts Park, although we are technically a charity-run event, we rely heavily on our council’s services.

“As our festival runs for a full week, we decided upon the sad news that we should postpone it for two weeks, to allow for 10 days of mourning.

“The first weekend of our festival will be a celebration of families coming together and enjoying the park and the surrounding areas with a picnic feel, as we know that our beloved Queen enjoyed this doing this with her family.

“This will include circus acts, face painters and much more.

“Our Saturday evening will conclude with an uplifting outdoor screening of Mama Mia, and there will be some events throughout the week to be confirmed, however we expect things such as poetry and art displays.

“The event we are really going to try and put on as a tribute to our Queen is a night of dancing, including Scottish country dancing, which we know she loved.

“Our finale weekend will feature back-to-back bands, continental markets, makers fairs, Pimm’s, cocktails, crafted beers and much more.

“All tickets will be on our website within the next few days, and all the bands and the children’s entertainment will be free, as always.”
