BOMB disposal experts have been called to rural North Yorkshire after what is reported to be a World War Two-era hand grenade was found this morning.
North Yorkshire Police reported that a metal detectorist made the discovery at 10.55am.
Masham Road at Firby, near Bedale, has been closed as a result and a safety cordon is in place.
North Yorkshire Police said: “Masham Road closed at Firby, near Bedale, after a WW2-era hand grenade found by metal detectorist at 10.55am today.
“[A] safety cordon [is] in place while bomb disposal experts assess the grenade.
“Please avoid the area and follow local diversions until further notice.”
