THERE was an emergency services presence in Bradford last night after a serious collision involving a car and a police van on a major road in the city.

The police van was responding to an emergency call when it was involved in a collision with a black Lexus on Duckworth Lane, near its junctions with Duckworth Terrace and St Leonard’s Road.

Two officers and the driver of the Lexus sustained “slight” injuries as a result, police said, and were treated at hospital.

The incident happened at 9.54pm.

One witness at the scene claimed that passengers had to be cut out of a car and taken to hospital by the ambulance service. The witness added that they thought it was a "police chase gone wrong".

A police cordon was put in place in the area, with the witness also saying that “around three to five police cars” – as well as a fire engine and an ambulance – were in attendance.

A statement from West Yorkshire Police, issued shortly before 12pm today, reads: “At 9.54pm yesterday a road traffic collision involving a marked police van and black Lexus occurred on Duckworth Lane in Bradford, at the junction with St Leonard’s Road.
