West Yorkshire has been hit by traffic chaos amid rush hour congestion and a police incident.

Drivers travelling along the major route should expect delays following a police incident outside Leeds, slow traffic around roadworks and more.

One delivery driver, who did not wish to be named, said he was hit by delays getting from the M62 onto the M606.

“I’m stuck on the M62 trying to join the M606, not sure what’s happened,” he said.

A police incident on the M62 Westbound at junction 30 A642 (Rothwell) led to congestion towards junction 32 (Pontefract).

All lanes have since reopened but the average speed in the area is currently around 15 mph.

While traffic is easing, there are severe delays of 23 minutes on the M62 Westbound between junction 30 A642 (Rothwell) and junction 26 M606, near Chain Bar.

There is slow traffic on M62 Westbound from junction 28 A653 Dewsbury Road (Tingley) to junction 26 on the M606, near Chain Bar roundabout.

This is partly due to the construction area, the AA said.

Meanwhile, the T&A's traffic partner, INRIX, has said: "Slow traffic on M62 Eastbound from J26 M606 J1 (Chain Bar) to J27 M621 (Gildersome). Congestion to J24 (Ainley Top). In the roadworks area."
