People of different faiths have come together to cultivate the land and enjoy fresh food at Wibsey Community Garden.

The event saw Bradfordians of all ages and backgrounds – including faith leaders – nurture and harvest fruit, vegetables and herbs before using it for a salad feast.

From police officers to Islamic and Christian faith leaders, organisers wanted to counteract the isolation and health struggles seen during the pandemic and prepare for difficult times in future.

Jen White, chief officer at Wibsey Community Garden, said: “The Gardens are an excellent venue to bring the community together offering locally grown organic fruit, vegetables, fruit, salads and herbs and a place to be active growing, harvesting and preparing food in a very friendly team.”

Cllr Sabiya Khan (Wibsey, Labour) added: “I was delighted to see a diverse range of our local faith leaders plan for how communities could come together as we face many challenges ahead where supportive neighbours will be needed for all to survive.

“Everyone enjoyed the therapeutic nature of the gardens and the opportunity to grow your own fruit and vegetables.”

The event on Tuesday was a partnership with Bradford Council’s Neighbourhood Team and Community Action Bradford & District.
