A MAN who hit his partner with a vacuum cleaner tube and then used her as a human shield when the police tried to taser him has been jailed for 14 months.

Brodie Lee was today sentenced at Bradford Crown Court on a video link to Leeds Prison where he was remanded after breaching his curfew order.

He had earlier pleaded guilty to common assault on the woman on January 28 and having a bladed article in a public place the following month.

Prosecutor Adam Keenaghan said Lee had turned up at his victim’s home after drinking alcohol and taking drugs. He waved a knife in her face but then apologised and things settled down.

Lee, 34, of Spring Edge, Halifax, then took crack cocaine and that evening he attacked the woman, pulling her to the floor and hitting her with a vacuum cleaner tube which smashed to pieces.

She sustained a black eye and bruising to her body, Mr Keenaghan said.

Just weeks later, Lee was holding a knife to his throat on a pathway in Halifax.

His partner got between him and the police officers to stop him being tasered and he used her as a human shield until the knife was prised from his hand.

Lee had 12 previous convictions for 28 offences, including assault on an emergency worker and harassment.

Lydia Pearce said in mitigation that the woman suffered ‘minor physical harm.’ In the second incident, Lee was holding the knife to his own throat.

He was addressing his issues with drink and drugs by taking courses in prison.

Judge Ahmed Nadim jailed Lee for a total of 62 weeks, or just over 14 months.
