TWO men have been jailed for their part in a shooting in Girlington.

Angry at footage showing his partner and the victim's wife having a fight in a Morrisons car park, Aadil Mahboob, of Chellow Dene View, obtained a pistol with mean intentions.

Last September 25, he and accomplice Qaasim Deen, of Fagley Terrace, headed to the victim's address, on Blythe Avenue, and fired a shot in the door of his reversing car.

The pair were both found guilty of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life at Bradford Crown Court today.

Shooter Aadil Mahboob was sentenced to 13 years and three months while driver Qaasim Deen was sent down for eight years.

The sentencing comes after a jury found them both not guilty of attempted murder in a previous trial.

Eleanor Fry, prosecuting, outlined how Mahboob, 30, acquired a pistol and took up the passenger seat in 27-year-old Deen's car.

Once at the victim's address, the inexperienced shooter fired the gun at the back door of his Volkswagen Golf.

A chase then ensued with the two defendants travelling at speed before the victim managed to escape.

Both men appeared on different CVP links from HMP Leeds in Armley for the hearing.

His Honour Judge Jonathan Gibson believed there was a high risk of severe harm to the victim.

He also felt it was fair to say the incident had caused the victim serious psychological harm.

Representing Mahboob, Stephen Uttley, highlighted a hand-written letter from his client saying he was full of regret and wishes he could turn the clock back.

However, Judge Gibson could not look past the fact that Mahboob played a leading role in obtaining the gun and then firing it.

Alasdair Campbell, who represented Deen, said the incident was "wholly out of character" for his client.

Mahboob had his 13-year sentence increased by three months for having an iPhone SE in his possession while in prison on October 28, 2021.

Detective Chief Inspector Andy Farrell, of Bradford CID, said: “We welcome the sentence handed down today to Mahboob and Deen, this was a targeted attack, luckily no one was injured but the consequences could have easily been much worse.

“The use of firearms on our streets will not be tolerated and we will seek to find those responsible and prosecute.

“Any offences involving weapons or guns will be taken extremely seriously by the police.”
