A 56-year-old man has died following a collision in Keighley.

The incident took place at around 2.24am on Sunday, September 4, when the pedestrian was in collision with a silver Toyota Yaris in Fell Lane.

The collision was close to the junction with Oakworth Road.

The man was taken to hospital but sadly died a short time later.

Councillors in the area have expressed their sorrow at the incident, saying their thoughts are with the man's family and friends.

The Major Collision Enquiry Team is appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident, or the movement of the vehicle or pedestrian immediately prior, to contact them on 101.

Officers said motorists also encouraged motorists with dash cam footage that may assist to make contact with the team.

Keighley Councillor Julie Adams expressed her sadness over the incident, and gave her condolences.

“My thoughts and prayers go out to the family of the gentleman who has passed away,” she said.

Although she acknowledged that the full details of the incident are yet to be established, Cllr Adams spoke in a wider context to argue that driving standards in the area are a concern.

She said: “Ultimately, I’m so sorry to hear that this has happened. I hope that any witnesses or anyone with information comes forward and that there is a swift conclusion.”

Councillor Paul Godwin, also of the Fell Lane and Westburn ward, also gave his thoughts.

“It’s not a great surprise I’m afraid, Fell Lane is an area where an accident has been waiting to happen,” he said.

“It’s a very difficult junction and the traffic control is not all that we would like it to be.

“I’m very sorry to hear that a man has passed away and it’s very sad for the family.

“My thoughts are with the family, and we hope to follow up in due course when we hear a bit more information from the police.”
