EMERGENCY services were called to a flat fire in Bradford this morning where two people were trapped on a balcony.

Fire crews and the ambulance service were called at 9.35am to reports of a flat fire at Cliffe Terrace, Baildon.

A spokesperson for the West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "The fire service was called to reports of a flat on fire with two persons trapped on a balcony. They were given fire survival guidance by Fire Control and managed to self-rescue.

"An extra fire engine was sent due to the nature of the incident.

"Three hose reels, six breathing apparatus and a positive pressure ventilation fan were used.

"An ambulance was requested for a male casualty with smoke inhalation."

Shipley, Bradford and Bingley fire stations were all called to the scene along with a Special Fire Investigation Team.
