A TEENAGE schoolboy is in a critical condition after running into traffic.

West Yorkshire Police was called to reports of a collision involving a child pedestrian and a black Ford Focus on Corban Street, in Bradford at 8.01am.

The force revealed this afternoon the teenager is a 13-year-old schoolboy and that he sustained serious head injuries.

He was rushed to hospital and his condition is critical. 

The road where the crash happened is just off the Wakefield Road (A650) slip road exit, heading towards Dudley Hill Roundabout and out of the city.

A police cordon was in place on Corban Street for most of the morning.

Police also had one in force on the slip-road, which was closed, and have been investigating the circumstances of the crash.

Officers have made some progress and their enquiries so far suggest the teenager was was walking at the roadside with school friends when he ran into traffic and collided with the vehicle.

The driver of the Black Ford Focus stopped at the scene.

They were voluntarily interviewed regarding the circumstances of the collision.

A full statement from West Yorkshire Police said: "Police are appealing for witnesses after a serious road traffic collision on Corban Street, Bradford.

"Officers were called at 08.01 to the A650 Wakefield Road slip road exit towards Dudley Hill Roundabout heading out of Bradford, to a report that a Black Ford Focus had been in collision with a child pedestrian.

"Early enquiries suggest the pedestrian - a 13 year old schoolboy - was walking at the roadside with school friends and has ran into traffic and collided with the vehicle.

"The 13 year old male was taken to hospital with serious head injuries.

"His condition is described as critical. 

"The driver of the Black Ford Focus stopped at the scene and was voluntarily interviewed regarding the circumstances of the collision."

Police are continuing to appeal for anyone who witnessed the crash, or those who have dash cam footage of the vehicle or pedestrian prior to the collision, to come forward.
