FRIENDS and family of a Bradford man who died after battling a rare syndrome and five different types of cancer will gather for a special day in his memory.

Steven Tinsley, from Idle, passed away at the age of 61 in January 2019.

He had Lynch Syndrome, an inherited disorder that dramatically increases the risk of many types of cancer.

Steven died at the Marie Curie Hospice and this Sunday, September 4, a memorial day will be held at Hepworth & Idle Cricket Club.

His daughter Donna said: “It is the first time we have been able to hold an event in his memory due to Covid and we are excited to see friends and family come together and raise funds for such an amazing charity, Marie Curie.

“My dad was an avid cricket player and captain of the evening league team John Breare, so a number of past players will be taking part in a charity cricket match on the day, which will be followed with the presentation of the Steve Tinsley Memorial Cup to the best player.”

She said there are lots of stalls supporting the event, the bar will be open and there will be a pizza van.

Donna added: “Local businesses have been so supportive and donated over 50 prizes for the raffle including meals for two, gym memberships, personal training sessions, and lots more.”

The family is aiming to raise at least £1,500 for Marie Curie by the end of the event.

“Our family can’t thank the staff at Marie Curie Hospice in Bradford enough for all their support and kindness when we needed it most,” Donna added.
