Dr Amir Khan on Bill Turnbull's death and prostate cancer

Dr Amir Khan paid tribute to former BBC Breakfast presenter Bill Turnbull, who died aged 66 earlier this week after being diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2017.

Speaking on today’s (Friday’s) Good Morning Britain, Dr Amir said: “He (Bill) has had a huge impact.

“Lots of men are embarrassed to talk about prostate cancer. He has brought it to the forefront. He has raised awareness of prostate cancer.

“One in eight men will get prostate cancer.

“If you have a strong history of it, you’re a man over 50 or from a black background, you should get checked. It’s really, really important.”

Meanwhile, Dr Amir took to social media to present a video on the symptoms of prostate cancer.

He posted on Instagram: “With the sad news of Bill Turnbull’s death from prostate cancer, I thought I’d do an explainer of prostate symptoms “This is not just for men. Ladies, if you know someone who has these symptoms please encourage them to see a healthcare professional or share this video with them.

“We need all our sons, husbands, brothers, dads, nephews, friends, granddads and anyone who has a prostate to know this.”
