AN old nursery building dating back to the 1800s could become six new apartments.

Plans have been submitted for Cliffe House, on South View Road, Yeadon.

Documents submitted as part of the planning application say: “The property comprises a two-storey Victorian villa that has operated as a children’s day nursery since 1998.

“The landowner purchased the property in 2016 and operated it as a nursery until 2021.

“The building is now vacant.”

The application says the building is subject to a condition that restricts the use of the building to a nursery and creche.

It adds poor occupancy rates meant the nursery did not break even financially.

The application also says the building does not meet “modern-day requirements for more open space for play and development”.

“Overall, this proposal will prevent the building from becoming vacant, which is restricted to a use no longer considered suitable and/or desirable in the market place,” says the application.

“This proposal represents a suitable change of use which can secure its legacy.

“Pre-application discussions with planning officers confirmed that the principle of residential development and conversion of the property was acceptable, by reverting the property back to its original function for residential use.”
