THERE was an emergency services presence at a West Yorkshire prison yesterday after reports that a suspicious package had been found in the area.

Police, fire crews, the ambulance service and the Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) descended on HMP Wakefield yesterday afternoon.

Cordons were put in place and officers were seen guarding the area.

West Yorkshire Police later confirmed that the object was recovered and was found not to be suspicious.

In a statement, it said: "At 12.22pm yesterday, police received a report of what was believed to be a suspicious package on Love Lane, Wakefield.

"Cordons were put in place while enquiries were made at the scene.

"The object was recovered and found not to be suspicious so the cordons were removed a short time later.”
