A BRADFORD district business is aiming to become the "most energy-efficient hair and beauty salon in the region" with its new store.
Avenue Boutique Hair & Beauty opened on Otley Road in Eldwick earlier this week.
With over 20 years of experience in the industry, Caroline Broadbent was finally able to realise her dream of opening her own salon in 2016.
She is now dedicated to creating a friendly and forward-thinking environment with a team of stylists that share her same passion for hair.
In her new shop, the salon director has decided to become part of the Green Salon Collective - the original authority on salon sustainability throughout the UK.
It means they will be recycling, composting and recovering: hair, used foils, empty colour tubes, chemicals, PPE, plastic, paper and even salon towels.
With the ongoing cost of living crisis, Caroline thought this would make the business more cost-efficient as well as environmentally friendly.
She said: "I owned a salon for seven years before this, so I will be hoping to rely on that experience.
"It was quite stressful carrying on during the pandemic but we did and managed to get through it.
"We wanted to expand with more staff. It is scary doing this during the cost of living crisis but the idea is to keep the costs low.
"By being part of the Green Salon Collective, we hope to do just that."
The new shop is filled with flowers and the colour pink which brings a fresh and vibrant feel to the place.
Opening on Tuesday, the salon has been received well with new clients enjoying their monthly membership system.
Caroline's husband Matthew added: "It has been really exciting for us.
"The goal is to employ more staff, make it environmentally friendly and bring something positive to the village.
"We hope this can be the start of an empire."
There are many ways to recycle hair including making hair booms and hair mats as well as using it for gardening and composting.
All salon metals - including foil, hairspray cans, and styling products - are typically sent to landfill.
The Green Salon Collective (GSC) collect every foil with excess colour on it.
They also offer a way to responsibly dispose of disposable salon towels.
When disposable towels are usually thrown away, they can sit buried in a landfill for years.
GSC ensure that the towels get composted properly.
