A BRADFORD man has been jailed for coughing on a nurse, claiming he had Covid-19, and racially abusing police officers.
Reece Southern, of Calderstone Avenue in Buttershaw, was sentenced to a total of 12 months following the two offences.
The first incident took place at his home address on January 21.
The 22-year-old's sentence was increased from two months to three due to the racially aggravated element.
He then participated in a common assault on a registered general nurse at HMP Doncaster five days later.
This landed Southern a nine-month sentence that will run consecutively.
The court found the offence so serious because he had "coughed on a nurse and claimed to have Covid".
The nurse was a public servant performing duty in a prison environment.
Southern must also have to pay a £156 victim surcharge.
He appeared in Kirklees Magistrates' Court on Thursday, August 4.
