LISTER Mills has been chosen to represent what a post-apocalyptic London landscape will look like in a new sci-fi drama.

Based on an acclaimed graphic novel, Bodies tells the story of  four different detectives  trying to solve a murder in different time periods: 1890s overachiever Edmond Hillinghead, dashing 1940s adventurer Karl Whiteman, female 2010s Detective Sergeant Shahara Hasan and Maplewood, an amnesiac from post-apocalyptic 2050.

Together, the four set out to uncover a conspiracy spanning 150 years.

Lister Mills is one of the locations for 2050, described in the graphic novel as a London filled with  'the last survivors of a terrifying techno-apocalypse'.

A local resident has captured some behind-the-scenes images of filming of the Netflix series last week.

Film crews set up and shot scenes at Lister Mills in Manningham for the Netflix drama on Thursday and in the early hours of Friday morning.

The resident captured images at various times of day, including some night scenes, with a large number of actors and actresses dressed in battle armour and military fatigues.

There were a number of props set up across the site and one scene involved a Bentley car.

The eight-part series Bodies follows four different eras of London as the same murder is investigated.

A letter sent to residents of Lister Mills said the series will cover four time periods - 1890s, 1940s, 2023 and 2053.

It added: “The series is set in London and we’re filming at Lister Mills which will act as one of our 2053 filming locations."

The scenes were filmed at the far end of the Lister Mills site, on the Beamsley Road side of the mill complex and crews “utilised the old remnants of the silk factory to form parts of our 2053 world”.

One resident has spoken about getting the chance to watch the "time and effort" put into the filming.

"It was very interesting," said the resident. "They were setting up for days prior. There were many people present and noise.

"It's very interesting to watch the process. I must say though, a lot of standing around.

"It seemed that these were just a few scenes and may be a short part of the entire project.

"So to see the amount of equipment, people, time and effort for a short part was interesting."

A large crane for lighting and a number of trucks with film equipment were spotted near the mill in the lead up to the filming.

Beamsley Roads had to be closed off for the lighting cranes and drivers were diverted away from the film location.

In the letter, Netflix told residents: “Over the past few months we have been filming in Bradford and all over Yorkshire.”

It is understood filming for the series also took place in Little Germany.

David Wilson, director of Bradford UNESCO City of Film, previously told the Telegraph & Argus: “It’s evident that we are doing something right in Bradford, with all the infrastructure in place to accommodate these high-end dramas.”

Bodies is being filmed throughout the United Kingdom in several big cities including Hull (which stands in for London in the 1940s), Leeds, Grimsby, Bradford and Rotherham.

The eight-hour long epic is due to stream next year.
