The teenage driver in the M606 triple death crash case can now be named for the first time as Jack Simpson.

The 16-year-old's name can be published after the Judge in the case lifted the reporting restrictions following an application from the Telegraph & Argus.

The Recorder of Bradford, Judge Richard Mansell QC, read out a letter from the T&A challenging the order to earlier not identify Simpson due to his young age, agreeing that it was in the public interest to put the defendant's name into the public domain.

The decision was made due to a strong public interest of fully understanding the events leading to the tragic death of the three men.

The court has been told that a stolen van stolen, driven by Simpson had two passengers in it, a 17-year-old and Kyden Leadbeater

Simpson drove away in the van after seeing police. The van was driven at over 70mph in a 30mph zone, the court heard, and Simpson drove through a red light.

Simpson drove towards Cleckheaton, going on wrong side of road to overtake a vehicle. He was travelling 55-58mph on wrong side of the road, the court heard.

He then reached 90mph on the wrong side of the road. Simpson passed through a right turn only lane at Chain Bar roundabout.

He continued travelling on wrong way round Chain Bar roundabout. He was now not being followed by police, as officers had lost sight of Simpson in the van.

The teen travalled north on southbound carriageway of the M606.

Another motorist flashed their lights at Simpson as they were on wrong side of road, with the van 'being pushed as hard as it could, speed wise' at that point.

A taxi driven by Sohail Ali, who had passenger Simon McHugh in his taxi, was travelling the correct way along the motorway. Both occupants of that vehicle were wearing seatbelts, the court heard.

Simpson drove head-on into Toyota Prius vehicle, the court heard.

Paramedics quickly at scene. Mr McHugh and Mr Ali were pronouced dead at the scene. Kyden Leadbeater died a few hours after the crash.

Simpson was arrested in hospital initially for death by dangerous driving. The court heard that the defendant's injuries included a fracture to his right leg, a fracture to his knee cap and punctured lung.

Earlier, Simpson had pleaded guilty to four charges - causing death by dangerous driving of Sohail Ali, causing death by dangerous of Simon McHugh, causing death by dangerous driving of Kyden Leadbeater and a count of dangerous driving.
