The last day of Leeds Festival was marred by “terrifying” tent fires and chaotic long queues, it has been claimed.

Hundreds of festivalgoers took to social media to share their experiences as campsites began to glow with flames in the night.

One attendee claimed people were already burning tents in orange camp and throwing deodorant cans to create mini explosions after the last set.

Others said the incredible music had been tainted by alleged scenes of people fighting and tents being set on fire with belongings inside.

Another parent said they made an emergency 100 mile drive to pick up their worried daughter and her friends, who were originally camping overnight.

Footage on social media - like the video below - shows crowds gathered round tents throwing objects into fires.

Other attendees said Leeds Festival was poorly organised as wide queues of vehicles and people built up in the car park and bus pick-up point.

In a statement from organisers and West Yorkshire Police, a spokesperson said: "While some reports of anti-social behaviour were received, no reports were made to West Yorkshire Police regarding any serious disorder at the festival during the final night.

"We are aware of sporadic tent fires which were dealt with by fire marshals on site, with persons then ejected. Police assistance was not required."

A 23-year-old attendee told the T&A: “When we were walking out people were already burning tents in orange camp and throwing deodorant cans and stuff on the fires to get them to explode.

“We left straight after Artic Monkeys and we were in stand still traffic in the brown camp car park for about an hour and a half.

“For a good 45 minutes no one was moving at all, everyone was getting out of their cars and sitting half in out of the windows trying to see what was happening.

“People in the cars shouting at each other out their windows because people wouldn’t let them into the queue.

“The walk out wasn’t too bad but the car parks were awful. No lights either so there was people walking round trying to find their cars.

“We spoke to a lady that had been looking for two hours by herself and still couldn’t find it. It took us 20 minutes to find the car, we had dropped a pin on Apple Maps so we could find it. Thank god we did that, would never have found the car otherwise.

“It was absolute chaos.”

The attendee, who has been to Leeds Fest six times, has called for an over 18s camp to be created.

“It was really bad this year,” she said.

“I want an over 18s camp so we don’t have to deal with the antics.

“A girl came over and complimented my top at Relentless and I asked how old she was, because she was obviously taking pills or MD, and her jaw was chattering. She was 15.

“It’s wild that 15-year-old’s can’t get into clubs but can go to places like that. It’s essentially the same thing.”

One 20-year-old, who attended Leeds Fest on Sunday, spent just over an hour in a queue for the last bus back to the city centre.

He said: “It took a long time, it was unorganised.

“The queue was really wide so it wasn’t really a queue. I’ve been to Leeds Fest twice now, it was always difficult to get on them buses.”

One social media user said: “Purple was the worst. We walked through orange, purple, green and brown, all had fires like I’d never seen before, so many parents waiting at the gates and the motorway queue to get into pickup was at least two miles long when we eventually got out.”

Another said: “Me and my mates were in purple camp last night and it was terrifying- there needs to be more security about and people fighting and setting tents on fire thrown out.”

One festivalgoer, who had attended Leeds Fest for her anniversary, said: “The queues to get out were so bad.

“I left last night [Sunday] and the queues were pretty bad, but I think some people will have been waiting a lot longer than us.

“We were lucky to be picked up, but we couldn’t find out how to leave for ages. The exits weren’t too clear.

“It was such a maze, I think we walked for about an hour to actually leave to be picked up.”
