BRADFORD fundraiser Abdul Satar is once again offering chocolate fudge cakes to raise money for those affected in the flooding in Pakistan.

Abdul, one of the founders of Bradford Community Kitchen, regularly offers the cakes, supplied by Regal Foods, for sale during Ramadan and has raised many tens of thousands of pounds for charities.

"It is devastating to see what is happening in Pakistan. Homes are being destroyed by the flooding and many thousands of people have died.

"Those who survive will be in need of food and shelter so I hope to raise as much as possible to help.

"All profits raised from the sales of the cakes will go to the appeal which is being managed by one of the humanitarian organisations, the Ummah Welfare Trust, which is on the ground there.

"I hope the people of Bradford will help support this by buying a cake. They can order one by ringing me on 07888 693 196."

The unprecedented monsoon season has affected all four of the country’s provinces. Floods have destroyed more than 150 bridges and numerous roads have been washed away, making rescue operations difficult. The flash floods have affected 33 million Pakistanis, damaged nearly a million homes and killed at least 1,061 people.

International aid was reaching Pakistan on Monday, as the military and volunteers desperately tried to evacuate many thousands stranded by widespread flooding

The Pakistan government has deployed at least 6,500 soldiers to help civilian authorities in rescue and relief operations across the country.

Prime Minister Shabaz Sharif was visiting various flood-damaged areas in the country’s north-west on Monday.

He has said the government will provide housing for all those who have lost their homes.
