POLICE investigating the discharge of a firearm in Halifax have released an update after two men were charged in connection with the matter.

A total of four people have so far been arrested as detectives from the force’s Firearms Prevent Team investigate the incident, which has now been confirmed to have occurred at around 6pm on Thursday, August 11 at Lux Tyres in Hopwood Lane.

Jarvan Peart, aged 31, of Free School Lane, Halifax, was charged on Thursday, August 25 with conspiracy to possess a firearm with intent to endanger life and appeared at Bradford Magistrates Court today (Friday), where he was remanded in custody.

Abanob Botros, aged 29, of no fixed abode, was charged on Tuesday, August 23 with possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and was also remanded in custody when he appeared before Leeds Magistrates on Wednesday, August 24

A 37-year-old man has been released on bail pending further enquiries and a 36-year-old woman, who was arrested for assisting an offender, has been released under investigation. 

A firearm believed to have been used in the offence has also been recovered.

Detective Inspector Amanda Wimbles, who is leading the investigation into the incident, said:

“West Yorkshire Police will not tolerate the criminal use of firearms and will investigate these matters thoroughly to identify those responsible and bring them before the courts.

“Our enquiries into this incident are continuing under Operation Holden, and we would appeal to anyone who may be able to assist our investigation to use this reference when making contact with our team – either by calling 101, using our LiveChat on the West Yorkshire Police website or reporting anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555111 or online.

“We fully understand the concerns that have arisen from our communities following the incident, and officers from the local neighbourhood policing team are continuing their increased patrols of the area to provide reassurance.”
