A TEENAGER has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a 48-year-old man was left in a critical condition following a stabbing to the neck in Bradford city centre.

The incident occurred on Ivegate yesterday afternoon at around 5.30pm.

A 44-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, he is also in police custody.

A police cordon remains in place at the scene on Friday morning.

A spokesperson from the force said: "Detectives are investigating a serious assault in Bradford City Centre which has left a man with serious injuries in hospital.

"Officers were called at 5.46pm yesterday (Thursday), to report a man had been stabbed in Ivegate.

"A 48-year-old man was found with an injury to his neck. He’s been taken to hospital and his injuries are described as critical. 

"A 17-year-old male has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and is in police custody at this time. 

"A 44-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, he is also in police custody. 

"A scene is in place in Bradford city centre as enquiries remain ongoing into this incident."

Detective Inspector Karl Noglik of Bradford CID added: “This is a truly shocking incident to have happened in broad daylight in the city centre. 

“I would like to reassure the public that this was an isolated incident, and we have made several arrests.  

“A scene remains on whilst forensic enquiries are ongoing.

“Local neighbourhood policing patrols have been stepped up in the area to provide reassurance to businesses and the public. 

“I am appealing to anyone who was in the vicinity of Ivegate and Kirkgate around 5.30pm who may have seen the assault to come forward.”
