THERE was a huge response from the emergency services today after a man jumped into the river from a bridge at Keighley.

Five fire engines, multiple police vehicles and ambulance were called at 4pm today to Park Lane, Keighley, following reports of man jumping from a bridge into River Worth.

"It turned out to be a false alarm," said Keighley Fire Station crew commander Adam Dykes. "A casualty had jumped into the water but then got out.

"Fire service personnel carried out but couldn't find anybody.

"The man had got out of the water and made his way to safety. CCTV footage proved this.

"A member of the public saw someone jump from the bridge into the river.

"Fortunately he made his own way to safety."

Five engines from Keighley, Shipley, Bingley, Silsden and Todmorden fire stations were called to the scene along with multiple police vehicles and ambulances.

"We usually need a lot of personnel for a search. This created a big turnout but fortunately it was a good outcome."
