A BRADFORD man escaped points on his driving licence after his partner falsely told him he was insured on a vehicle.

Earlier this month, Khaled Ahmed, of Peveril Mount in Undercliffe, admitted to driving the car on Wakefield Road in East Bowling on August 11 of last year without third-party insurance.

The offence usually carries penalty points but Ahmed was excused as the court found "special reason".

This meant they were satisfied that the 34-year-old was misled.

The court said the defendant had "no reason to doubt his partner when he was told he was insured".

He was fined £500, and had to pay £300 in court costs and a £50 victim surcharge.

The crime was contrary to section 143 of the Road Traffic Act 1988 and Schedule 2 to the Road Traffic Offenders Act 1988.

Ahmed appeared at Bradford Magistrates Court on Monday, August 8.
