A MAN has been jailed and banned from owning animals for five years after he broke the leg of a Cockapoo dog.
The case against Levi Hayden, of Prospect Street in Huddersfield, was heard in Bradford Magistrates' Court earlier this month.
The suffering to Duke the dog occurred in Halifax on December 4 of last year.
The crime was contrary to sections 4(1) and 32(1) of the Animal Welfare Act 2006.
Hayden was committed to prison for 14 weeks because the serious offence occurred in a domestic setting.
The 29-year-old was also disqualified from owning animals, under Section 34 of the Animal Welfare Act 2006.
Hayden has to pay a £128 victim surcharge and £85 in court costs.
The case was heard on Wednesday, August 3.
