TWO major television dramas are being filmed in Bradford in a further boost to the city’s reputation as a ‘go-to’ spot for high-profile productions.

Several locations in the district have been used as a backdrop for the upcoming ITV medical thriller Malpractice, which will tell the story of a damaged doctor caught up in a dangerous conspiracy.

Actress Niamh Algar was recently spotted filming scenes in Centenary Square.

The series will follow Dr Lucinda Edwards, played by Algar, who is a doctor on a shift that ends in the death of an opioid overdose victim, Edith Owusu.

The plot sees Edith’s grieving father demand an inquiry into Lucinda’s actions on the night of her death.

The former Shipley tax office is being used as a filming site for the series.

Large white production trucks and lighting systems could be seen in the building’s car park, while a red ‘Accident and Emergency’ sign could also be spotted on the front of the tax office building.

David Wilson, director of Bradford UNESCO City of Film, said: “The use of the redundant Shipley tax office as a film set is clear evidence of the demand for studio/set build space across the North of England, but in Bradford in particular.

“Bradford has a long and well-documented history of providing some brilliant locations for all manner of productions but the need to build sets in close proximity to some of these locations is becoming more of a pressing matter, especially as many productions are making a conscious effort to be more sustainable and travel less between set and on location.”

Filming has also taken place in private homes in and around the district, including in Eccleshill village and Rawdon.

Amanda and Simon Meadows opened up their home - Skye House, on Larkfield Road, Rawdon – so scenes could be shot across a three-day period.

The property, currently on the market with Fine & Country Leeds, is set to feature significantly in the drama.

Meanwhile, Bradford’s iconic Lister Mills will be used as a backdrop for a new Netflix drama.

A letter sent to residents of Lister Mills says the series will cover four time periods - the 1890s, 1940s, 2023 and 2053.

It adds: “The series is set in London and we’re filming at Lister Mills which will act as one of our 2053 filming locations.”
