A MAN was taken to hospital with serious injuries after the off-road bike he was a passenger on crashed into a wall. 

Emergency services were called to the scene, on Harrogate Road, near the junction with Ravenscliffe Avenue, at 12.15pm on Saturday (August 20). 

The road was closed for some time and there was a large police presence, including Forensic Collision Investigators. 

West Yorkshire Police is now appealing for witnesses to the crash. 

A spokesperson said: "The large orange off-road motorcycle was travelling up Harrogate Road towards Ravenscliffe Avenue when it lost control and crashed head-on into a wall at the junction.

"One of the male riders fled the scene with the bike but was subsequently located and treated for injuries.

"The second male rider was taken to hospital where his condition is described as serious but stable.

"Anyone who may have seen the incident or the circumstances leading up to it, or who may have video footage of the incident is asked to contact West Yorkshire Police’s Roads Policing Unit by calling 101, or via www.westyorkshire.police.uk/101livechat quoting reference 705 20/8."
