STUDENTS at a Bradford sixth form school which was only set up three years ago are celebrating success in their A-level grades.

A total of 450 students from Dixons Sixth Form Academy, which is based in Douglas Mill, off Bowling Old Lane, collected their results from the site's sports hall last Thursday.

They are now planning where they will go next, either taking the university, further studies route or take on an apprenticeship scheme.

Amran Hussain, 18, of Undercliffe, is also planning to do an apprenticeship next after receiving an A* in Law, B in Sociology, B in Extended Project and a C in History.

The Dixons Sixth Form Academy student, who wants to be a lawyer, said: "I'm so happy with my results. I'm trying to find an apprenticeship with a law firm."

Two students have proved that university is not the only next step as they gear up for apprenticeships.

Danish Khan, 18, is taking a different route after his A-levels. He is starting an apprenticeship in IT sales with Bradford firm CCS Media.

He received two C grades in English Literature and Business and a B in Sociology. He also received a B in the Extended Project qualification.

He said: "I always wanted to do an apprenticeship. I always wanted to do one before I did my exams."

Bradford Telegraph and Argus: Principal Mark Rothery congratulates students on results day Principal Mark Rothery congratulates students on results day

Principal Mark Rothery says he was happy for, and proud of, his students after a two-year spell studying for their A-levels which has been disrupted by the pandemic.

He said: “I’m relieved and delighted for the students. They spent the first year of their A-levels on an adapted timetable.

"Half of their time has been disrupted (by the pandemic). We did not let them socialise and they had to wear masks.

"We had a 99.7 per cent A-level pass rate this year.

“Four of our students are going to Oxford or Cambridge and 15 are going to do medicine or dentistry. We’re really happy.

"Bradford does not need to look at other cities anymore. We are not a second class city, we are Bradford."
