SIX students who secured four A* each in their A-levels were among those celebrating successful results at Bradford Grammar School (BGS).
The super six joined 40 per cent of students who were awarded A* grades, while 73 per cent achieved A*/A grades securing them places at the country’s top universities, including Oxford and Cambridge.
BGS head boy Freddie Azfar, of Shipley, achieved his A*s in Biology, Chemistry, Maths and Music Technology and will head off to Newcastle University to study Medicine.
Meanwhile, head girl Amy Dixon, of Menston, secured hers in Computer Science, Maths, Further Maths and Physics and will study Physics and Computer Science at Durham University after a gap year.
Freddie, 18, said: “I wasn’t expecting to get four A*s so it’s a bit of a shock. I’m really pleased.”
Amy, also 18, added: “I was shocked. I didn’t think I was going to get four A*s. You never know how well you’ve done, it’s been amazing.”
Meanwhile, Alex Flaherty, 18, of Menston, who has represented England in cross-country running, will study History at Durham University after achieving his A*s in Chemistry, History, Maths and Latin.
Rebecca McCash, 18, of Ilkley, who only joined BGS in Year 12, was delighted to be heading to Oxford University to study Biology after A*s in Biology, Chemistry, Economics and Geography.
She said: “It’s been a weird couple of years with all the disruption, but the teachers have been so supportive.
“I didn’t know what results to expect today so it’s a great feeling to get four A*s.
"Getting into Oxford was the dream and I’m excited for the next stage of my life.”
Ranvir Narang, of Horsforth, Leeds, who gained A*s in Computer Science, Maths, Further Maths and Physics will study Physics with Astrophysics at Warwick University.
Finally, Sukruth Pradeep Kundur, of Wrose, Shipley, was awarded his A*s for Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science and Mathematics and will go to King’s College London to study Medicine.
Twin sisters Lorna and Louise Nelson, both 18 of Baildon, also excelled. Lorna secured three A*s in chemistry, computer science and maths while Louise, who will study International Management with French at Bath University, achieved As in biology, economics and French.
Lorna, who is taking a gap year, said: “I’m really glad that the hard work paid off with all the hours spent revising.
"I was hoping I’d done well but it’s never guaranteed so I’m delighted.”
Meanwhile Gemma Hall, 18, of Hipperholme, who joined BGS in Year 12, will be heading off to Southampton University to study Mechanical Engineering after gaining three A*s in Maths, Further Maths and Physics and an A in music.
The keen musician, who plays in Elland Silver Band, one of the finest youth bands in the country, was delighted with her results.
