A RETROSPECTIVE application to turn an empty city centre shop into an Irish themed pub has been submitted to Bradford Council.

The Dubliner on Ivegate, one of Bradford’s oldest surviving streets, opened in a former charity shop unit late last year.

In March a retrospective planning application for the building’s façade was refused by planning officers, who said the flamboyant frontage was harmful to the City Centre Conservation Area.

Making their decision, officers revealed that planning permission to change the use from a shop to a pub had never been submitted or approved.

At the time C49 Architecture, agent for the applicant, said: “Our client took over this run-down unit which was a former charity shop and looked to bring a new drinking establishment onto Ivegate.

"Unfortunately the company unknowingly has done this without the correct planning consents.

“The Dubliner is fully licensed and shall be putting the correct planning permissions in for the usage and advertisement.”

The frontage has since been toned down, with two decorative Leprechauns removed.

An application to change the use of the building to a pub, and retain the shop front, has now been submitted to Bradford Council by a Mr Royston, according to the application form.

A decision on the application is expected in October.
