A BRADFORD mental health hospital has been announced as a finalist in a national competition.

Cygnet Hospital Bierley’s in-house magazine for those it treats has earned it a place in the final stages of the National Service User Awards 2022.

The Bierley Bulletin is up for the ‘Excellence in Co-Production’ category.

Sam Poskitt, clinical manager at the hospital on Bierley Lane, said: “As many hospitals know, it can be very tricky communicating and handing over information to both service users and staff. Sometimes this information can get lost in translation or there’s no written communication where both staff and service users are able to refer back and read what has been going on.

“This is where the Bierley Bulletin comes into place and why it was created. These moments can be from staff to staff, service user to service user or even service user to staff. The magazine takes an informal approach to handovers and governance so it is easily digested and more appealing to non-management.

“It is a fantastic initiative and thoroughly deserves to be recognised at these awards.”

The awards are now in their 10th year and winners will be announced on September 14 at Colwick Hall Hotel in Nottingham.
