MORE details have emerged about an ITV drama partly filmed in Bradford based on the case of a killer who shot and blinded a police officer and went on the run.

A green adjacent to Rayner Mount in Allerton was used for filming for a three-part factual drama for ITV called The Hunt for Raoul Moat.

Newcastle bouncer Moat, 37, killed his love rival Chris Brown, 29, in Birtley, Gateshead, in July 2010, then blasted his former lover Samantha Stobbart, leaving her in a critical condition.

The next night he shot and blinded unarmed PC David Rathband, who was sitting in a patrol car. PC Rathband later took his own life.

Moat went on the run and, after a terrifying week-long manhunt, he found himself surrounded by armed police on the banks of the River Coquet in the village of Rothbury, in Northumberland.

In a bizarre development, former England and Newcastle United footballer Paul ‘Gazza’ Gascoigne turned up during the stand-off, taking a fishing rod, lager and chicken in a misguided bid to 'save' Moat - and was turned away.

Inquest jurors returned a verdict of suicide in the death of Moat, who shot himself in the head to end the six-hour stand-off.

The search for Moat cost more than £1.4 million, Northumbria Police later revealed. The force released figures for the manhunt, which took seven days and included officers from 18 forces.

Filming for the drama on the case in Allerton took place earlier this year but no broadcast date for the drama has been confirmed, an ITV spokesman said.

It involved scenes featuring a police investigation with marked force cars, police officers and a forensic tent used. Filming also took place at some of the ginnels and paths in the area near to the green.

The TV drama focuses on the innocent victims of Moat’s crimes – Mr Brown, Miss Stobbart and PC Rathband; the police officers who put themselves in the firing line to find Moat and a local journalist who wanted to tell the story.

The Hunt for Raoul Moat begins with Moat’s Miss Stobbart piecing her life back together following Moat’s imprisonment for an assault. He is then released from HMP Durham after serving a four-month sentence.

The ITV programme stars Lee Ingleby, who previously appeared in shows The A Word, Inspector George Gently. He plays Neil Adamson, a senior Northumbria Police Officer, who leads the investigation to catch Moat.

Sonya Cassidy, who previously starred in The Man Who Fell to Earth, plays local journalist Diane Barnwell. Vineeta Rishi, who previously appeared in Vera and Three Girls) as Nisha Roberts. Sally Messham, who has appeared in Doc Martin, will play Samantha Stobbart.

Matt Stokoe, who starred in Bodyguard, will play Moat and Josef Davis, who has appeared in Silent Witness, will appear as Mr Brown.
