A WOMAN has been given a community order after injuring her close friend in an altercation.

Shelly Gallagher, 49, of Victoria Road, Shipley, appeared before Bradford Crown Court yesterday to be sentenced after pleading guilty to a charge of inflicting grievous bodily harm.

The court heard she and Rachel Stott, her friend of more than 25 years, were socialising and drinking at Gallagher’s house on April 2 last year when an argument broke out and Ms Stott was pushed.

She injured her wrist, which was described as “floppy”, and the court heard she was left with wrist and pelvic fractures.

The seriousness of her injuries came to light at Bradford Royal Infirmary, and she had to have surgery.

Sue Hirst, for Gallagher, said she was “very remorseful” for what happened, and the loss of their friendship was a source of great distress. She was of previous good character and had never troubled the courts before.

Judge Jonathan Rose told Gallagher she would not be going to prison and described the incident as an “aberration” in an otherwise blemish-free life and she did not intend to hurt her friend.

Gallagher was handed a two-year community order and must carry out 180 hours of unpaid work.
