A BRADFORD district-based stairlifts firm has reported strong annual results.

Acorn Stairlifts’ results for the year ended September 30, 2021, show the business’s annual turnover at £236.6 million, up by £6m on the previous year. Profit after tax was £47.9m, up by just over £13.2m on the previous year.

Two-thirds of Acorn’s turnover came from its activities outside the UK. All Acorn Stairlifts are manufactured in the UK, but exported for sale in Western Europe, North America and Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.

As part of the medical and social care supply chain, Acorn continued to operate throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, to service and protect the ongoing needs of its customers.

Its engineers employ strict covid protocols when carrying out essential stairlift maintenance and servicing in customer’s homes, most of whom are classed as vulnerable.

Sales of new stairlifts dipped, but have recovered well. In many cases, having a home stairlift in place enabled people with mobility issues to live independently and safely at home during lockdowns and while self-isolating or shielding.

When Covid-19 surfaced in 2020, Acorn reacted quickly to implement a range of strategies designed to cushion its impact on the business. The latest figures reflect a full year of the success of those measures.
