A WELL-known car restorer has hit back after worrying allegations about his business operation emerged on social media.

They were seemingly sparked by a post on the ‘Sporting Minis’ Facebook group, which prompted others to share their own experiences.

Andy Harrison, who runs Shipley-based Acespeed, told the Telegraph & Argus the allegations are false and “without foundation” and he is taking advice on potential legal recourse.

Mr Harrison and his team restore, service, repair and enhance classic cars and historic motorsport vehicles.

But a series of damning allegations gained a head of steam earlier this week.

It was claimed on the Sporting Minis Facebook page, a publicly viewable page with a community of 25,000 people, that an enthusiast of the iconic car took his Mini to Acespeed and the firm “did nothing on it” for more than two years with “excuses galore”.

It was further claimed that they sent the owner an invoice for £8,000 and used photographs of someone else’s restored van.

Another poster claimed they had to re-do almost all the work and said Mr Harrison would not return messages or calls towards the end “and wouldn’t even look at me when I attended the garage to collect my car”.

Another person alleged a client of theirs had a similar experience. It was claimed they collected the vehicle after two-and-a-half years and were left sorely disappointed at the state of the work and refused to pay the balance.

Others claiming to have had similar experiences also shared their anger.

Mr Harrison told the Telegraph & Argus in a statement: “I am aware of various statements on social media relating to myself and the company I have built up over the last 30 years.

“They make a number of allegations which are false, without foundation and potentially damaging to a business of which I am exceptionally proud.

“I do not propose to enter a line-by-line rebuttal of these claims as this is not an appropriate arena to do so but those who really know me also know my values and those of Acespeed Historic Motorsport.

“We are now taking advice on potential legal recourse and will not be making any further comment.”
