A MAN faces a bill of more than £400 after dodging a train fare between Bingley and Bradford.

Liam Mercer, 25, of Princeville Street, Bradford, faced one charge of travelling on the railway without paying a fare.

He travelled between Bingley and Bradford Forster Square without paying the £3.30 fare.

During this journey, on December 29, 2021, he was asked by the conductor to produce a valid ticket and could not. He could then not pay for the journey he was making.

He was issued with an Unpaid Fares Notice to pay the fare within 21 days. He did not pay within the time limit, and two subsequent letters were sent to him, without a payment being made.

Mercer was fined £220, ordered to pay £150 costs, a £34 victim surcharge and £3.30 compensation for the offence, which totalled £407.30.

Mercer was sentenced in his absence at Kirklees Magistrates’ Court on July 13, 2022.
