PEOPLE are still jumping off the bridge at a popular Bradford district beauty spot despite repeated safety warnings.
This afternoon, the Telegraph & Argus captured images of several youths and adults tombstoning from the suspension bridge over the River Wharfe in Ilkley.
It has become a hot spot for dangerous behaviour in warm weather, with people regularly climbing to the outside of the bridge to jump into the shallow water below.
A Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) for the riverside area gives Bradford Council wardens the power to hand out fines of up to £100 to people who take part in tombstoning - jumping from the bridge into the river.
Last year, a temporary metal barrier was installed on the footbridge on Denton Road but it was vandalised and failed to deter jumpers.
It comes after a scheme to stop such behaviour was scrapped by Bradford Council due to numerous objections.
In March, the Council submitted a planning application for work officers felt would help solve the problem. It would see the height of the guardrail on the fence increased to 2.4 metres.
But, after a string of objections, the Council has this week withdrawn the application.
