BRADFORD Council will allow a pub to host a bank holiday event, despite noise complaints from two neighbours.

Steven Riley of the Fountain in Eccleshill had applied to Bradford Council for a Temporary Event Notice that would allow the pub to host an outdoor event at the Victoria Road pub on August 28.

The event, which runs from noon to 10.30pm, would include an outdoor DJ from 2pm to 6pm.

Two people living nearby the pub had made noise complaints to the Council about similar events held at the pub. This led to an objection to the notice from the Council’s Environmental Health Department.

On Tuesday the Council’s Licensing Panel met to decide whether the event can go ahead.

Investment in pub will see triple the amount of outdoor seating

Environmental Health officer Ian Farmer said noise sensors placed in the homes of complainants recorded that during other events at the pub, music reached 50 decibels in complainants’ homes.

This was unacceptable, he argued, and any music at the pub would need to be played much lower.

Mr Riley argued that 50 decibels was defined as the noise produced by “a quiet refrigerator.”

He claimed most people living near the pub supported the events, which raised money for charity, and added: “It is a shame two people could spoil everything for the local community.”

After a deliberation the panel agreed the event could go ahead.
