A HEALTH alert has been issued for a heatwave in Bradford from today.

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has released a heat-health warning for the coming week.

It begins at midday today and currently runs until 6pm on Saturday, covering all regions of England.

Temperatures are not set to reach the record-breaking levels of last month's heatwave, when a Level 4 heat-health alert (the highest designation) was in place.

But they are expected to rise through the week and a fire chief in West Yorkshire has warned of impending wildfires.

Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist, Tony Wardles said, Friday and Saturday are meant to be the peak of the heatwave, with central and southern areas of England, and Wales, expecting temperatures to peak at 35 degrees Celsius and possibly even 36 degrees Celsius.

The mercury is predicted to hit the high 20s and low 30s later this week for other parts of the country, according to Mr Wardles.

The meteorologist is expecting people to struggle at night too, with temperatures due to only drop to around the low for some areas in the south.

People are advised to keep hydrated and take steps to stop your home from overheating.
